You will be responsible for designing and expanding your nest underground, creating intricate tunnels and chambers for food storage and brood rearing. On the surface, your ants will claim territory, gather resources, and engage in battles with formidable spiders and rival colonies. The success of your colony depends on your nest design, army size, composition, and the timing of your attacks.
The game is narrated from the viewpoint of a documentary filmmaker studying the ants, providing insightful commentary on the colony’s activities and the world beyond the undergrowth. The primary game mode, Formicarium, allows you to control a unique colony of DNA-harvesting ants. These ants can assimilate the traits of their enemies, and you can upgrade them by completing various missions.
