You step into the shoes of Miles Upshur, an investigative journalist, who ventures into the eerie Mount Massive Asylum. Your mission? Survive and uncover the asylum’s dark secret.

Located in the isolated Colorado mountains, Mount Massive Asylum is a former institution for the mentally ill, recently reopened by the Murkoff Corporation’s research and charity division. Miles Upshur, acting on an anonymous tip, infiltrates the facility. What he finds is a chilling blend of science, religion, and an unknown entity. The only way out is to uncover the horrifying truth at the heart of the asylum. Outlast aims to prove that the scariest monsters are born from the human mind.

The game initially had a standard difficulty level, but now offers four levels; Normal, Hard, Nightmare, and Insane. Each level increases the challenge, with louder door sounds, stronger and smarter enemies, and limited hiding spots. The Nightmare level restricts you to only two batteries, while the Insane level offers no checkpoints, meaning a single death will reset your progress.

Outlast offers a true survival horror experience. You’re not a fighter, your only options are to run or hide. The game features high-quality graphics, stealth-based gameplay with parkour elements, unpredictable enemies, and a setting inspired by real asylums and criminal insanity cases.
